The immigrants likely arrived in the Land of Israel in the summer, when such long journeys are feasible. The seventh Hebrew month, Tishrei, arrived with the children of Israel settled in the cities; the people assembled, as one man, to Jerusalem.

Yeshua son of Yotzadak, the High Priest, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubavel son of She’altiel, the leader of royal lineage, a descendant of King Yehoyakhin, and his brethren stood and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer up burnt offerings upon it, as it is written in the Torah of Moses, the man of God.

BACKGROUND

Yeshua son of Yotzadak

Yeshua, or Yehoshua, who was the first High Priest of the Second Temple, returned from Babylonia with Zerubavel. Yeshua came from the priestly family of Tzadok, which was the family of the majority of the High Priests going back to the time of King David. His grandfather, Seraya the High Priest, was executed by Nevuzaradan at the time of the destruction of the Temple (see II Kings 25:18; I Chronicles 5:38–41; Shir HaShirim Rabba 5).
