Halleluya. I will thank the Lord with all my heart in the assembly and council of the upright.

הַלְלוּיָהּ, מצד אחד זו מלת קריאה המורכבת מהמלים: ‘הללו יה' – קריאה להלל את ה'; ומצד שני היא מלה אחת שפירושה שיר תהילה לה', כעין הרחבה של המלה ‘הלל', כדוגמת ‘מאפליה' ו'מרחביה'.<footnote data-lang="heb" data-id="6409" data-num="7 "/>אוֹדֶה לה' בְּכָל לֵבָב, בְּסוֹד, מועצה, מקום התוועדות של יְשָׁרִים וְעֵדָה.

א הַלְלוּיָהּ אוֹדֶה ה' בְּכָל לֵבָב בְּסוֹד יְשָׁרִים וְעֵדָה

Great are the works of the Lord, ready for all that is desired. God’s works are finely wrought and perfectly ready to be put into operation.

גְּדֹלִים מַעֲשֵׂי ה', ומכיוון שהם משוכללים, הם דְּרוּשִׁים, עשויים ומוכנים לְכָל חֶפְצֵיהֶם, למה שצריך להיעשות בהם. מעשי ה' אינם עשויים לצורך עצמו; תכליתם גלומה בעצם היותם.<footnote data-lang="heb" data-id="6410" data-num="8"/>

ב גְּדֹלִים מַעֲשֵׂי ה' דְּרוּשִׁים לְכָל חֶפְצֵיהֶם

Splendid and glorious is His work; His righteousness stands forever.

הוֹד וְהָדָר פָּעֳלוֹ של ה', וְצִדְקָתוֹ עֹמֶדֶת לָעַד.

ג הוֹד וְהָדָר פָּעֳלוֹ וְצִדְקָתוֹ עֹמֶדֶת לָעַד

He has made His wonders a lasting memory. God’s wonders are not temporary phenomena but rather endure and leave a lasting memory. The Lord is gracious and merciful.

זֵכֶר עָשָׂה לְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו. נפלאות ה' אינן חד-פעמיות. הרושם שהן מטביעות נמשך לאורך זמן. חַנּוּן וְרַחוּם ה'.

ד זֵכֶר עָשָׂה לְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו חַנּוּן וְרַחוּם ה'

He gives food to those who fear Him; He remembers forever His covenant with those who cling to Him.

טֶרֶף, מזון נָתַן לִירֵאָיו, יִזְכֹּר לְעוֹלָם את בְּרִיתוֹ, הברית שכרת עם הדבֵקים בו.

ה טֶרֶף נָתַן לִירֵאָיו יִזְכֹּר לְעוֹלָם בְּרִיתוֹ

He tells the power of His deeds to His people. God informs His people what will transpire in the future, as all events that occur are ordained from above. But God does not merely tell them of promises; He also fulfills them, giving them the portion of nations, as He promised to the patriarchs.

את כֹּחַ מַעֲשָׂיו, ובכללם גם את העתידות הִגִּיד לְעַמּוֹ, שכן הוא המכוון את מאורעותיהם, והוא אף מממש את הדיבורים הללו – לָתֵת לָהֶם נַחֲלַת גּוֹיִם, כפי שהבטיח לאבות האומה.

ו כֹּחַ מַעֲשָׂיו הִגִּיד לְעַמּוֹ לָתֵת לָהֶם נַחֲלַת גּוֹיִם

The works of His hands are truth and justice; steadfast are all His edicts.

מַעֲשֵׂי יָדָיו אֱמֶת וּמִשְׁפָּט, נֶאֱמָנִים, אמתיים כָּל פִּקּוּדָיו, ציווייו.

ז מַעֲשֵׂי יָדָיו אֱמֶת וּמִשְׁפָּט נֶאֱמָנִים כָּל פִּקּוּדָיו

They are set firmly for all eternity, fashioned in truth and uprightness.

סְמוּכִים, מבוססים ויציבים לָעַד לְעוֹלָם, עֲשׂוּיִם בֶּאֱמֶת וְיָשָׁר.

ח סְמוּכִים לָעַד לְעוֹלָם עֲשׂוּיִם בֶּאֱמֶת וְיָשָׁר

He has sent redemption to His people, ordaining His covenant with them for all time. Holy and awesome is His name.

פְּדוּת, גאולה שָׁלַח לְעַמּוֹ, שהרי צִוָּה לְעוֹלָם, לנצח לשמור את בְּרִיתוֹ, קָדוֹשׁ וְנוֹרָא, ומעורר יראה שְׁמוֹ.

ט פְּדוּת שָׁלַח לְעַמּוֹ צִוָּה לְעוֹלָם בְּרִיתוֹ קָדוֹשׁ וְנוֹרָא שְׁמוֹ

In light of all that has been said, the psalmist summarizes: Wisdom begins with fear of the Lord. Fear of God should be the underlying principle of a person’s conception of the world, the foundation upon which he constructs his worldview, for all those who practice it will come to good sense. His praise stands forever.

סיכום: רֵאשִׁית חָכְמָה יִרְאַת ה'. יראת ה' היא התשתית להבנת העולם ולבניית עולמו, שכן יראת ה' היא שֵׂכֶל טוֹב לְכָל עֹשֵׂיהֶם, מקיימי משפטיו ומצוותיו של ה'.<footnote data-lang="heb" data-id="6411" data-num="9"/> תְּהִלָּתוֹ של ה' עֹמֶדֶת לָעַד.

י רֵאשִׁית חָכְמָה יִרְאַת ה' שֵׂכֶל טוֹב לְכָל עֹשֵׂיהֶם תְּהִלָּתוֹ עֹמֶדֶת לָעַד
